Commanders Rival Cowboys 'Could Struggle and Fall' in NFC East Standings

While many talk about the Washington Commanders being at the bottom of the NFC East Division there's another member that could fall a bit from where it once stood.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders finished last in the NFC East Division last year and as public opinion goes that means they were the worst team in the foursome.

This year is a new one for the Commanders and another opportunity to return to the top where it was following the 2020 NFL season.

Yet, there isn't a lot of love for Washington's chances to win the division, or even compete, at this point in time.

They aren't the only NFC East team getting some doubt thrown their way though, as the Dallas Cowboys could surprise everyone and tumble down the divisional standings this coming season according to the site 33rd Team.

"The Cowboys have a lot of pressure on them, especially quarterback Dak Prescott and coach Mike McCarthy," says 33rd Team. "They wanted to run the ball more, but they released Ezekiel Elliott....Then Dak lost his security blanket, tight end Dalton Schultz, who signed with the Texans. That's a lot of pressure on Prescott, and I don't see how the Cowboys can move up. They could struggle and fall in the other direction."

Now, pushed to answer the question if most people had to project Dallas as a faller in the division they'd put it third with Washington fourth and the New York Giants rising to the second spot.

But, any team falling opens a door for another to take advantage and while the Giants finished ahead of the Commanders last year the two teams are much closer than most would like to acknowledge.

While the Cowboys let Elliott walk this offseason they do have running back Tony Pollard still on the roster, although he's coming off a knee injury himself and shouldn't be relied on to carry the full load on his own.

Dallas did address the tight end position with Michigan's Luke Schoonmaker but it's highly unlikely he brings what Schultz did as a rookie this season.

By and large, the Cowboys lost a lot of firepower in their offense and did little to replace it.

Combine that with Washington's new commitment to young quarterback Sam Howell and the loss of no significant playmakers and it's clear that while one team may fall, another may rise.

And if one team is going to benefit from a Dallas slide, why not the Commanders?
