NFL Power Rankings: Commanders Make Biggest Jump?

The Washington Commanders made a huge leap in Sports Illustrated's Power Rankings after their 35-33 win.

The Washington Commanders are 2-0 for the first time since 2011.

Washington snapped its streak of 1-1 or 0-2 starts with a 35-33 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High. The Commanders overcame an 18-point deficit in the win, making their win the franchise's largest come-from-behind victory since 1990.

With the historic victory, Washington moved up to No. 17 in Sports Illustrated's Power Rankings. The Commanders were tied with the New Orleans Saints for the biggest jump from the Week 1 power rankings.

Washington and New Orleans each jumped 11 spots.

"This should be a victory lap week for the Commanders. Like the Buccaneers, we have no idea where this is going," SI writes. "Teams start 2-0 all the time. But this staff and roster deserve a little bit of time in the sun. Playing under a new ownership group can be a nightmare, even for the most tenured and secure of head coaches."

Washington's offense scored its most points since 2020, thanks largely to Sam Howell and Brian Robinson each having the best performances of their young careers against Denver.

Howell completed 27 of 39 passes for a career-high 299 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson had 18 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 42 yards. Robinson's 129 total yards was a career-high as well.

Their performances and the Commanders' 25-point outburst are further proof of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's impact as the playcaller.

"For Eric Bieniemy, venturing out on his own and betting his career on Sam Howell was also an incredible risk," SI writes. "And yet, the Commanders are fifth in first downs picked up and fifth in rushing touchdowns. They’re also in the top 10 in passing touchdowns and fewest interceptions thrown."

The Commanders' offense faces their stiffest test of the young season on Sunday when they face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at FedEx Field at 1 p.m.
