Commanders' Sam Howell vs. Jacoby Brissett: True Training Camp 'Competition'?

Sam Howell is tentatively the Washington Commanders starting quarterback entering training camp, but will he keep the job when Week 1 rolls around with Jacoby Brissett lurking in the background?
In this story:

The Washington Commanders quarterback room has a different feel to it than in previous years. With second-year quarterback Sam Howell the tentative starter as we edge closer toward training camp beginning, Jacoby Brissett shouldn't be overlooked as a Week 1 candidate either.

While it has been made clear that Howell is going to get the first crack at the starting job, should Washington make it a genuine battle for the position all throughout training camp?

For NFL.com, an honest quarterback battle is the way forward this offseason.

"Howell showed promise in his lone start last year (a Week 18 win vs. Dallas), and Brissett was a solid stand-in for Cleveland during Deshaun Watson's suspension," NFL.com writes. "An honest QB competition is the way to go here. Howell might have a leg up to start, but will he keep it by the time September rolls around?"

Head coach Ron Rivera and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are going to have to make a tough call on the starter.

Howell showed his talents in Week 18 last season in a 26-6 win over the Dallas Cowboys, but he only has one regular season start. Whereas Brissett has skins on the wall as an NFL starter.

With still so much unknown about the Commanders' offense coming into training camp, could a genuine quarterback battle that many thought Howell was ahead in become a major storyline?

We're about to find out.
