Commanders' Ron Rivera Predicted to Be Fired Midseason
Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera is on the hot seat.
In three seasons with the team, he has yet to lead the team to a winning record. And with a new ownership group coming in next month, Josh Harris may want to tab his own choice for head coach.
That's part of the reason why SB Nation has predicted that Rivera could be fired before the end of the season.
"The Commanders have even more work to do than most basement teams in order to reach the postseason," SB Nation writes. "It could be offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy or veteran Jack Del Rio leading the team with an interim tag."
Before taking the Washington job in 2020, the Carolina Panthers fired Rivera in the middle of the 2019 campaign, so if the Commanders gave him the boot before the 2023 season ended, it would be familiar territory for him.
Another reason behind the lack of faith in the Commanders is the challenging division they play in. Many don't expect them to be better than the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants within the NFC East. Washington also boasts an unproven answer at the quarterback position in Sam Howell, who was drafted in the fifth round of last year's draft.
The Commanders hope to prove SB Nation and everyone else wrong in the upcoming season, otherwise there is a legitimate chance it could be Rivera's last in the nation's capital.
