Josh Harris Offer to Buy Commanders Moves to NFL for Approval
Even procedural moves are exciting for Washington Commanders fans right now.
Joshua Harris' deal to buy the Commanders from disgraced owner Daniel Snyder is now in the hands of the powers that be in the NFL, according to Sportico ...
"The league will review the deal and return it to the parties for alteration or, if approved, signatures," Sportico writes. "At that point, it will be resubmitted to the NFL for final approval from its owners, according to the people, who were given anonymity because the matter is private."
It isn't yet clear what the exact timetable is for the approval process, but there's no reason to believe the Harris -- who also is the majority owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils -- won't be approved. NBA icon Magic Johnson will be part of the ownership group as well. Johnson also has experience of being part of a successful ownership group, as he has a stake in the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose majority owner is Mark Walter.
While Snyder probably won't have many friendships with major NFL power brokers after he officially sells the team, he isn't exactly giving up the Commanders for 50 cents on the dollar.
The Associated Press previously reported that the group led by Harris will ultimately pay $6.05 billion to buy the Commanders from Snyder. When Snyder bought the team from Jack Kent Cooke in 1999, he paid "just" $750 million.
