Washington Commanders' Sam Howell Reflects on 'Disappointing' Chicago Bears Loss

The Washington Commanders were blown off FedEx Field in a devastating first half by the Chicago Bears and quarterback Sam Howell stated the game overall was disappointing.

The Washington Commanders came into last Thursday night's clash against the Chicago Bears in a confident mood after pushing the Philadelphia Eagles all the way in a 34-31 overtime loss.

But whatever special juice the Commanders drank against the Eagles, they were out of it against the Bears. After a brutal first half that saw the Bears rack up over 300 yards of total offense and put up 27 points to Washington's three, the game was nearly over as a contest.

Sam Howell, who is still adjusting to life as the starting quarterback, stated that the team will be better moving forward.

"I think there's a lot of things about the game that were disappointing. We thought that we were the better football team, and we didn't play that way tonight. That's what I learned so far in the NFL. It's not the better team that wins the game, it's the team that plays the best that night. Tonight, the Bears outplayed us. Credit to those guys, but obviously we got to be better. We can't let things like that happen. Like I said, we will be better moving forward."

Sam Howell says a lot of disappointing things came out of the 40-20 blowout loss to the Bears.

There will no doubt be some harsh lessons to learn in Washington's mini-bye week as they look to bounce back against the Atlanta Falcons.

After starting the season 2-0, many were rather bullish on the Commanders as Ron Rivera's team hadn't put together a full game of high production yet...and they still haven't, although against the Eagles that was as close as they came.

But now, after three losses on the bounce, it's look in the mirror time at this early stage of the season. Sitting at 2-3, the season isn't over by any stretch, but with the Dallas Cowboys and the Eagles starting to separate from the pack in the NFC East, Washington needs to get things fixed and quickly.

The season started well and now Washington is struggling to stay afloat and against the Falcons in Week 6, Rivera's team needs to come out and show that what they dished up against the Bears was simply an outlier for his hungry team.
