The Washington Commanders bounced back from losing to the Philadelphia Eagles last week with a 20-17 win over the New England Patriots.

With plenty of the season remaining, Washington now sits at 4-5 on the season, and quarterback Sam Howell again showed progression in his play.

But how did he think he handled the hostile territory of Gillette Stadium?

“I thought I was alright,” Howell said. “I thought I did some good things and made some good plays. Just got to find a way to play better at certain times. Obviously, the interception was a big play for us, a chance to get some momentum going into half time. That’s probably one of the worst plays I’ve made in my football career. Definitely not do that in that situation. A lot of guys stepped up, the O-line did a good job, we ran the ball well, we protected well.”

For the second week in a row, the Commanders' offense was rolling, and while they only scored 20 points, Howell and Co. put up 432 yards of total offense while averaging 5.6 yards per play.

Howell again showed promise as he completed 29 of his 45 passes for 325 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

But despite his good showing, Howell knows that when the chance comes to put the game away, the offense needs to do it and not be bailed out by the defense.

“As a whole, we did a lot of good things, we just got to finish better, and when we have a chance in the fourth quarter to win the game, we got to take advantage of that," Howell said. "We gave the ball back to them three times, and our defense came up with a stop every single time. It was a great team win.”

Washington will no doubt be feeling good about the win, but up next on the schedule is a Seattle Seahawks team that got the brakes beat off them by the Baltimore Ravens and will want retribution.

But for now, Howell and the team can revel in a good road win, and their season is still alive at 4-5 after some up-and-down moments throughout the year, which is all fans can really ask for.
