Washington Commanders' Sam Howell Reacts to 'Tough' Loss vs. Dallas Cowboys
The Washington Commanders will look at the box score and see 45-10 in their loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but the score doesn't tell the whole story.
The Commanders were only down 10 points entering the fourth quarter before the Cowboys put their foot on the gas and scored 25 unanswered points, which included a record-breaking pick-6 from DaRon Bland.
For quarterback Sam Howell, who had yet another 300 passing-yard game, it was a bitter pill to swallow losing to Dallas, especially given the chances the offense had to put together drives.
“Tough game, tough loss,” Howell said. “I thought we were in the game for three quarters, obviously kind of got away from us in the fourth quarter. We just got to do a better job early in the game when our defense is getting stops. We kind of struggled to finish drives and sustaining drives but we just got to find a way to get better.”
Looking at the stat sheet, the Commanders had more first downs (23), ran 25 more plays, and had the ball for almost 14 minutes more than the Cowboys, making fans wonder what exactly went wrong.
One of the biggest issues was fourth down as the Commanders went 0/3, and the play calling on those attempts will be scrutinized.
In the end, the Commanders did reasonably well for three quarters as they kept the game close, but Dallas eventually pulled away, and in truth, the scoreline likely flattered them a touch.
But it is back to the drawing board for the Commanders as they now drop to 4-8 on the season, and questions over Ron Rivera's future will only grow louder after the 45-10 demolition.
