Washington Commanders WR Coach Praises 'Extremely Competitive & Professional' Terry McLaurin

The Washington Commanders offense has several weapons, but for receivers coach Bobby Engram, Terry McLaurin sticks out due to his competitive nature.

The Washington Commanders have several offensive weapons for Sam Howell to utilize, one being Terry McLaurin.

A beacon of production regardless of who his quarterback is, McLaurin has drawn plaudits from around the league for his play. New Washington receivers coach Bobby Engram has detailed what he's learned from coaching the player known as "Scary Terry."

“How quietly intense he is," Engram said. "Extremely competitive but professional in every way. He's a guy that wants to dominate on game day."

And dominate his has.

McLaurin, in three of his five seasons, has surpassed 1,000+ receiving yards and is on his way to getting that total again.

Commanders receiver coach Bobby Engram has praised the competitive nature of Terry McLaurin.

But with McLaurin being the focal point of the offense as he leads Washington again in targets (31), receptions (25), and yards (261) through five weeks, when that happens, others could maybe feel a little aggrieved that targets aren't coming their way.

Engram told his group to focus on what they can control, not on what they can't.

"It hasn't been a big detail thing because they get it," Engram said. "All of our jobs often depend on the other guys on the field. I talk to them about what we can control? You control your releases, you control how you get open, you control catching a football, and let's just focus on the things that we can control. I think every great receiver has a little bit of selfishness in them in terms of, I want the ball, but I'm telling them it's never going to be detrimental to what we're trying to do as an offensive unit or a team.”

The Commanders' offense has been reasonably productive through the first five weeks under Howell, scoring 20+ points in four of their five games, including two games with 30+ points.

But despite that, the Commanders are on a three-game losing streak as they face the Atlanta Falcons in a bid to arrest their current slump.

If the Washington offense can get rolling and put last week's horror show against the Chicago Bears in the rearview mirror and get McLaurin and others involved, then maybe the streak is about to be snapped.
