Commanders' Terry McLaurin Praises Sam Howell's Confidence: 'Really Unique'

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell has impressed Terry McLaurin with his demeanor.
In this story:

For all of the questions surrounding the Washington Commanders quarterback position, Sam Howell is already carrying himself like the guy who will lead the offense.

His leadership has already caught the eye of Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin and has him "excited" to see what the second-year quarterback is capable of.

"Sam has done a great job of being a leader at such a young age," McLaurin said. "He has a confidence about him that you can't help but notice. I'm excited to work with him along with the rest of our group and our offense, and we're going to see where we go from there."

Despite having played for 12 different quarterbacks since he entered the league in 2019, McLaurin has become one of the better receivers in the game. The 27-year-old receiver has led Washington in receiving yards in the last four years and made the Pro Bowl in 2022.

Howell's leadership grabbing McLaurin's attention is a promising sign for Washington. With all of the change surrounding the Commanders' offense, McLaurin has become the team's leader on offense.

Along with his ability to lead, Howell's ability to overcome ups and downs in games and practice has also inspired confidence in McLaurin.

"You don't see him get flustered," McLaurin said. "Even when he's had a few rough patches during practice, he doesn't hang his head. He's not yelling, cussing, things like that. He stays pretty even keel, which is really unique for a young guy. That struck me in the Dallas game because we had a turnover, but he still wasn't afraid to push the ball down the field."

No one has seen the impact of Washington's carousel of quarterbacks like McLaurin. Howell's play and mental capactiy inspiring this level of confidence in McLaurin is a promising sign not just for Washington's offense but the entire team.
