Commanders Coach Ron Rivera 'Excited' About Team Progress

Ron Rivera is eager to coach the Washington Commanders back to the playoffs this season.
In this story:

It's been a busy offseason for the Washington Commanders, undergoing big changes on and off the field.

With Josh Harris officially purchasing the franchise for $6.05 billion after being approved unanimously by the other 31 NFL owners, the Commanders can begin to focus primarily on football. That's something Ron Rivera has worked hard to zero in on.

"We stayed focused on trying to put together the best team we could," Rivera said. "We tried to take care of getting guys signed to the best of our ability and we focused in on that. We knew it would be a matter of time and when that time came, we just wanted to be ready and have everything in place. We felt like we had a good spring, good OTA’s in minicamp and we had a good three days of rookie camp the last couple of days. We’re excited about where we are.”

The offseason is all about optimism. Teams don't lose games in the offseason, so there isn't much to be upset about. Instead, there's a lot of promise and hope.

From Sam Howell beginning his opportunity to become the franchise quarterback to Emmanuel Forbes' playmaking ability in the secondary, Washington has many reasons to be excited with its younger players.

And the veterans are also giving reasons for excitement. Defensive end Chase Young appears to be a full go after struggling with injuries for the past two seasons and defensive tackle Daron Payne has a new pricy contract he's playing on.

Ultimately, the Commanders are progressing and that's something worth being excited about.
