Cowboys 5-Man 'Core' Playmakers Make Dallas Super Bowl Contender?
FRISCO - “Underrated as Super Bowl contenders" is not a term typically associated with the Dallas Cowboys - not amid all the hype and all of the polarization. However, Dallas' five core playmakers rank as one of the best in the league. … so maybe it all comes together in 2023.
The Cowboys five cornerstone players (quarterback Dak Prescott, linebacker Micah Parsons, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, guard Zack Martin and cornerback Trevon Diggs) rank as the No. 6 best core in the NFL, according to ESPN.
The Cowboys' core is a clear display of why they are a true -- perhaps even underrated -- Super Bowl contender. Prescott isn't at a Mahomes or Allen level, but he's supported by a Defensive Player of the Year candidate in Parsons, a star No. 1 wideout in Lamb and a future Hall of Fame offensive lineman in Martin. And no player has more interceptions over the past two seasons than Diggs (14).
There have been many changes for the Cowboys this offseason, including coach Mike McCarthy taking over as offensive play-caller. A big storyline to watch is how the Cowboys will be getting used to what Prescott has termed the "Texas Coast Offense."
In addition to their already-established core players, the Cowboys added receiver Brandin Cooks and corner back Stephon Gilmore this offseason. Dallas' Super Bowl odds are the sixth-best but are chasing NFC East Division foe Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles' core roster players (QB Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Lane Johnson, Haason Reddick, Darius Slay) came in at No. 3. And … No surprise, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the way, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs took the top spot.
