Cowboys' Micah Parsons OUT of Dallas Practice, But Recruiting Shaq Leonard
FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is the clear leader of the defense. He leads by example on and off the field and his effectiveness is unquestionable.
That makes him a powerful figure in everything from the recruiting area to the practice field ... though as of Tuesday, he was only available for the first of those.
The Cowboys added Parsons to the practice report with an illness that kept him out of the Tuesday work here in Frisco at The Star.
(Jayron Kearse is working through his back soreness and returned to full participation. Dante Fowler was out again due to illness, and Rico Dowdle was limited with an ankle issue.
Meanwhile, back to the recruiting grounds ...
Micah has always been vocal about recruiting available defensive players to Dallas in an effort to improve the team, and that appears to be the case with free agent linebacker Shaq Leonard. The former Indianapolis Colt was released on Nov. 21 and had a scheduled visit with the Cowboys on Tuesday.
Leonard had lunch with team owner Jerry Jones and others at The Star on Tuesday before departing for the Philadelphia Eagles for another such session.
On his weekly podcast, "The Edge," Parsons had Leonard's Colts jersey hanging behind him. When asked about it, he replied honestly.
“I’m not telling you nothing yet,” Parsons said on Leonard during the Monday episode. “We’ll see next week what happens when he comes to visit [Dallas] on ‘The Edge.’ Tune in to that and check this see if Shaq is going to be a Dallas Cowboy or not.”
Parsons isn't the only Cowboy who would like to see Leonard with a star on his helmet. We also know that Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has given a thumbs-up to the idea.

Signing Leonard could accomplish something other than improving the defense for the Cowboys. It would keep him out of Philadelphia, who Dallas is currently attempting to catch for the lead in the NFC East. ... which of course causes us to shift focus back to the field, for as Leonard might decide his fate this weekend, Micah needs to get healthy in time to help the 8-3 Cowboys handle the Thursday night visit from the Seattle Seahawks.
