Cowboys vs. Green Bay BREAKING: Packers Playoff Injuries - Jaire Alexander & Christian Watson ACTIVE
ARLINGTON - The Green Bay Packers are getting two out of three ... and that ain't bad.
They came in crossing their fingers on three key players and their injury-related status for today's playoff game here in Arlington vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
Defensive back Jaire Alexander sustained a "freak'' injury to his ankle this week and was being termed "50/40'' for the game. But he's playing.
Christian Watson, the playmaking wide receiver who has been out since Dec. 3, was to work out pregame here at AT&T Stadium to test his hamstring, at which time it will be determined if he can play today. And he's in.
And running back AJ Dillon's doubtful status means that he is unlikely to play, meaning that Aaron Jones will again carry the load for the Green Bay backfield. That remains in place.
The Cowboys' major concern in the availability department regards No. 2 QB Cooper Rush, who is dealing with an illness. Third-string QB Trey Lance would move up the depth chart behind Dak Prescott if Rush cannot go.
But Dallas is going with Rush. The Cowboys' inactives are ... Trey Lance (emergency third QB), Eric Scott, Asim Richards, Matt Waletzko, Jalen Brooks, Tyrus Wheat and Junior Fehoko Jr.
Dak Backup Sick; QB Trey Lance's Chance?
Aaron Jones, meanwhile, is a perfectly good answer at running back as he has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in each of the last three games. (If Dillon can't play, undrafted rookie Emanuel Wilson will be Jones' backup.)
At receiver, Green Bay does have depth. But Watson is a deep threat for QV Jordan Love who burned Dallas in the meeting a year ago ... so his help would be welcome.
Cowboys vs. Packers 'Freak Injury' to Jaire Means Move
The biggest issue regards Alexander, who has star quality essentially unmatched on his defense ... and obviously unmatched on the depth chart. Alexander has missed over half the season due to injuries and a late-season goofball suspension. But that hasn't necessary readied rookie Corey Ballentine and Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon to hold up against the likes of CeeDee Lamb.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Stick with CowboysSI.com and we'll keep you posted on all the news.
