Cowboys ‘Big 3’: Does Brandin Cooks Trade Make Dak’s WRs ‘Elite’?

The Dallas Cowboys made the move to sign Brandin Cooks to ease the offensive workload on CeeDee Lamb and it gives Dallas three genuine star receivers.

The Dallas Cowboys knew heading into the offseason that getting offensive help for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb was paramount. After Lamb shouldered much of the workload, another bonafide No. 2 receiver was needed.

The front office got to work, and after missing out on a trade for Houston Texans receiver Brandin Cooks last season, the Cowboys returned to the negotiating table and secured his services.

With the Cowboys making several key offseason moves, Cooks' signing has now given Dallas three excellent receivers, according to CBS Sports.com.

"Not having Amari Cooper did affect the Cowboys offense a bit last year, so Dallas decided to correct the lack of playmaking wide receivers by trading a 2023 firth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick," CBS Sports writes. "Dallas didn't give up much to acquire a player of Cooks' talent, a viable No. 2 option to CeeDee Lamb for 2023.

"Having Lamb, Cooks, and Michael Gallup gives the Cowboys an excellent wide receiver trio."

Does “excellent” translate to “the best trio in the NFL”? This is the time of the off-season for “lists” and “rankings.” But that’s not nearly as important as real numbers and real wins.

In Cooks' last eight seasons, he has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark six times as he brings experience and speed to Mike McCarthy's "Texas Coast Offense.”.

With Lamb (1,359 yards) the only constant threat on offense, the next best was Dalton Schultz (577 yards) and then Noah Brown (555 yards). That isn't exactly a genuine trio of stars.

But now, with the addition of Cooks to complement Lamb and Michael Gallup, who is looking in the best shape he has been in since recovering from his ACL injury, Dak Prescott has three genuine 1,000-yard weapons at his disposal.

Is Cooks' arrival Dallas's best offseason move? Well, he fills a need, came in at cost, and dramatically improves the receiving corps.

All of these constitute good business and give Dak and the Cowboys offense three big playmakers. .. receivers who all have the talent to potentially give Dallas the best chance at breaking the NFC Championship hoodoo.
