Cowboys' Dak Prescott Advice To Bengals' Joe Burrow: 'Be Patient!'

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott shared some words of guidance for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, advising him to take his time recovering from injury

Pre-season injuries are all too common in the NFL, and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was the latest star to suffer such a fate.

Last week, Burrow was carted off the field at practice with a non-contact injury. He fortunately avoided the worst-case scenario, as an MRI revealed just a strained calf. However, the Bengals' star signal-caller will still miss a few weeks recovering the injury.

Many have shared words of advice and encouragement in the wake of Burrow's injury, with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott being among the most notable to do so. Prescott, who missed time with a similar injury in 2021, emphasized patience in his advice to his fellow quarterback.

"Be patient. It's training camp. A guy like that you just need him for Game 1, really as the season gets going and the meat of the season," Prescott told reporters. "Just be patient. I know a guy like Joe is taking all of his mental reps, getting himself prepared. That's what you need to do most in this game when you're not being physical.

"But just look at his past, the guy got what an ACL his rookie year and comes back and has the best year as a quarterback? I guarantee he's got the right approach to it and doing exactly that."

Prescott and Burrow have a bit of shared history in terms of injuries. Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in October 2020, with Burrow having his season ended by a torn ACL a month later. Both players returned in triumphant fashion the following year, though, with Burrow winning Comeback Player of the Year and Prescott finishing second in voting for the same award.

As previously mentioned, Prescott has experience with a nearly identical injury. In October 2021, he missed two weeks with a strain in his right calf. However, he only missed one game, a Week 8 win over the Minnesota Vikings, as his injury coincided with Dallas' bye week.

Burrow surely wants to get back on the field as soon as he possibly can, but causing further injury is a very real risk. To reduce that risk, he should listen closely to Prescott's advice.
