Dak Prescott vs. Stephon Gilmore: 'Iron Sharpening Iron' in Cowboys Workouts

The Cowboys' Dak Prescott is feeling heat from his secondary in practice, but it's only making the veteran QB better.

When Cowboys' QB Dak Prescott wants to throw one way in practice, there's Trevon Diggs to break up the ball. When Dak wants to throw the other way, there's Stephon Gilmore to do the exact same. It's practice heaven and hell for a quarterback.

"It's been great to have that - just to be able to practice against that and such an elite corner," Dak said of competing with Gilmore in practice. "And on the other side, you got a guy like Diggs who's just the same way. It's iron sharpening iron. Ready to get out to camp and we can be competing for real."

Gilmore has been in the league long before Dak, playing his last 11 seasons in Buffalo, New England, Carolina and Indianapolis. And the 32-year-old, according to Dak, hasn't lost his step.

"He's a hell of a player. Obviously, I've played against him a few times, but then just to get out here in these minicamps and these OTAs he knows his looks," Dak continued. "He knows what's expected. He knows how to read concepts. He's going to jump [routes] when he feels like he's right."

Gilmore brings five Pro Bowls, two All-Pro campaigns and a Defensive Player of the Year award to the Dallas locker room. And while your first thought is surely how crucial he can be this fall, know that his presence is already being felt.

With 29 career interceptions, we're sure Gilmore has a few left in the tank to toss Dak's way this summer. ... and Dak will get his successes throwing to CeeDee Lamb and company, too. It's all just iron sharpening iron, right?
