Ware: 'Totally Different' Cowboys in ‘Texas Coast Offense’

Is this the year for Dallas? Newly inducted Hall of Fame edge rusher DeMarcus Ware has seen some good signs from the Cowboys so far.

What did newly-inducted Pro Football Hall of Fame edge rusher DeMarcus Ware see when he was looking on at a Dallas Cowboys practice not long ago?

“It was a totally different team,” Ware said of the Cowboys in an interview with USA Today. "They were doing some really cool stuff with Dak and some of the younger guys. Just the mentality they had, it's what I wanted to see."

This brief scouting report from Ware will surely get Cowboys fans fired up as the start of the regular season draws nearer, with the team entering the third week of training camp.

Yet, while coach Mike McCarthy has taken over as the offensive play-caller and is installing the "Texas Coast Offense," that may not be the biggest change the Cowboys' all-time sack leader saw with the team.

“Sometimes when I leave from over there – it’s a lot of great players, but they’re not all together,” Ware said. “But for the first time they are playing together, they are playing with a lot of enthusiasm. And I’m like, 'Man, is this our year?”

That enthusiasm has translated thus far into camp and has even put an extra spotlight on the Cowboys and, specifically, quarterback Dak Prescott via the mainstream media. While one ex-player paints trash-talking between Prescott and Diggs as a negative, Ware is saying that the enthusiasm is a good sign and something potentially missing from Cowboy teams of the past.

Ware is just the latest former Cowboy to try and diagnose the problems that have held Dallas back from playing in an NFC Championship since 1995. Current Colorado coach Deion Sanders blamed the Cowboys for being "chokers," while former quarterback and now-turned ESPN analyst Troy Aikman said, the Cowboys haven't played their best football when the lights are brightest.

What's the actual cure? That's the million-dollar question inside The Star. ... with D-Ware thinking the new offense might be the answer.
