'They Can't Find Him!' Cowboys Reveal First Impression of Rookie Deuce Vaughn

Much was made of the Dallas Cowboys' drafting of Deuce Vaughn, but it didn't take Mike McCarthy long to be a believer in the former Kansas State running back.

There was a lot of noise surrounding the Dallas Cowboys' selection of Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn in the sixth-round of the NFL Draft.

While the emotional tug of having his father, Chris, who works for Dallas as a scout, was shown all throughout social media, many wondered how Deuce could translate his college success to the NFL.

Well, as it turns out, it didn't take long at all. While most fans saw glimpses of Vaughn's talents in the Cowboys' preseason games, coach Mike McCarthy has kept an eye on Deuce since Day 1 of OTAs and is revealing that the 5-5, 175-pound back made a great first impression.

“Extremely exciting player, I think the first time you see him in line, in a team drill, you could see it right away in the helmets, his unique skill set,” McCarthy said.

“The thing that jumps out at me is his running style when he goes through the hole, they [the defense] can’t really find him. He’s got great vision and instincts, really high in awareness, and he’s a playmaker. Very bright, has picked it up extremely well. Obviously made a very strong first impression.”

With Deuce doing all the right things throughout training camp, many still wanted to see him in live NFL action.

Deuce Vaughn

As the backup role behind Tony Pollard was undecided as Vaughn, along with Rico Dowdle, Malik Davis, and Hunter Luepke, all had aspirations of taking the mantle, it was Deuce who in many ways separated himself from the pack.

In his preseason outings, Vaughn totaled 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries before being put on ice for Dallas' finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, as he showed enough to warrant a spot on the 53-man roster.

Now, as the Week 1 clash against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium comes into focus, Vaughn will again have a chance to make another impression with real NFL bullets flying.

It's one thing to do it in preseason, but when the bright lights of Week 1 come on, it's another thing entirely.

But for Vaughn, his efforts thus far should give Cowboys fans no reason to think he won't continue launching into the second level of the Giants defense on "Sunday Night Football.'' ... where it is hoped New York "can't find him'' ... in just the right way.
