Dallas Cowboys a ‘Menace!’ Ranked Too Low in Eagles Chase?
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys look to build on back-to-back 12-5 seasons with their major roster moves, including adding eight rookies in the 2023 NFL Draft. Rookie minicamp is about to begin and it's an exciting time of possibilities around the franchise.
Now that the dust has settled on post-NFL Draft rosters, Sports Illustrated has released new power rankings and the Cowboys land at No. 9. Why?
While I think Dallas ultimately failed to secure its tight end of the future, with Luke Schoonmaker the fifth one off the board in deep class, the Cowboys became super athletic up front. Viliami Fehoko out of San Jose State is a menace, and could easily find himself working into a rotation. As for first-round DT Mazi Smith, a 6'3" human should not be able to move as quickly as he does. This defense is going to be very good in 2023, and Smith will abuse interior offensive linemen in the division.
Smith looks to be a rookie to have an instant impact. Coach Mike McCarthy taking over play-calling this season is also a big change for the Cowboys. Dallas also added veterans Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore, filling holes at receiver and cornerback. Maybe the biggest change for Dallas though, is the release of running back Ezekiel Elliott, a cornerstone of the Cowboys locker room.
Dallas' NFC East division rival Philadelphia Eagles take the No. 1 spot in the rankings after drafting Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round.
SI says, 'The Eagles appear to be the best all-around team in the NFL right now."
Oddsmakers don't agree, giving the Kansas City Chiefs the best odds to win Super Bowl LVIII.
Nothing stokes a rivalry more than an Eagles team trying to usurp the champion Chiefs and a Dallas team closely on the tail with new weapons to utilize. And the fun is just beginning …
