Cowboys' Jerry: 'Sick' About Rodgers Injury; Sold on Dak 'Leadership'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says Dak Prescott is the best leader he's had during his 35-year tenure with America's Team.

In the wake of two dramatically different games in MetLife Stadium over the weekend, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered two dramatically different opinions on this week's quarterbacks.

1. He's "sick" about Aaron Rodgers' potentially season-ending Achilles injury that will likely keep him out of the New York Jets' visit to AT&T Stadium Sunday afternoon.

2. He's happy to have Dak Prescott, who he said is the best leader the Cowboys have had during his 35-year tenure.

"He's the best leader I've ever seen at that position," Jones said during his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan. "We've had (Troy) Aikman, and Tony (Romo) and they were both good leaders. But Dak is so sound in his psyche, and he relies on his preparation better than anybody I've ever been around."

Cowboys - Dak Rodgers

Prescott will likely face Zach Wilson with the Jets rather than Rodgers, who has tormented Dallas in the past with playoff victories in 2014 and 2016. Including the postseason, Rodgers is 8-2 vs Dallas and with 19 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

The Cowboys were 3.5-point favorites over the Jets before Rodgers' injury, but have jumped to 7.5.

"I was sick for everybody," Jones said of Rodgers' injury on Monday Night Football. "It just reminded me how fragile a season can be. (Rodgers) has taken a toll on us ... given us a coupe of heartbreaks."

Jones is understandably giddy after last Sunday's 40-0 shutout of the New York Giants. He gave coach/new play-caller Mike McCarthy an "A", and said Tyler Smith (hamstring), Jourdan Lewis (foot) and Donovan Wilson (calf) are all "right on the cusp" of being ready to play against the Jets.

"It was unbelievable," he said of the record shutout of the Giants. "I didn't need a plane to get home. I was flying high."
