'Grass Greener?' Juanyeh Thomas Checks In on Lapsed Dallas Cowboys Fan
One fan's California dream has become a nightmare.
The Los Angeles Chargers are the talk of the NFL town for all the wrong reasons: fresh off one of the biggest collapses in AFC playoff history, the Bolts (5-9) lost both franchise quarterback Justin Herbert for the season as well as their playoff hopes this week. Rock bottom awaited on Thursday when the Chargers dropped a 63-21 decision in Las Vegas, a loss that proved to be the last stand for both head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco, each of whom was fired on Friday.
Dallas Cowboys defender Juanyeh Thomas was among those who watched Thursday's game with amused disbelief, stating his belief that the one-sided score "can't be real" on X. Thomas enjoyed further fun when he found a former Cowboys fan who opted for the supposedly bluer skiers of the Chargers, even penning a mock press release to address his switch in allegiance in a separate X post.
Thomas wasn't willing to let him forget it.
"Damn bro," Thomas declared. "Grass greener?"
The fan's desertion is dated March 2022, shortly after the Cowboys were Wild Card round victims of the San Francisco 49ers. Los Angeles was viewed as an up-and-coming contender thanks in part to a Pro Bowl season from Herbert that saw him throw 38 touchdown passes.
But the Chargers have struggled to capitalize on that potential, instead becoming infamous for numerous heartbreaking losses. They qualified for the playoffs as the top Wild Card on last year's AFC bracket but they blew a 27-0 lead to Jacksonville. There were high hopes for the Chargers with former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore holding the same role in Southern California, but heartbreak has reigned: five of the Chargers' nine losses have come by one possession, including a 20-17 fall to Dallas on Oct. 16.
Thomas was willing to buy the fan's loyalty back, offering $100 to put the Cowboys' name back in his X bio. But the user appears to have no interest in turning back, apparently willing to go down with the Chargers' ship.
An undrafted first-year man out of Georgia Tech, Thomas helped the Cowboys start their season on a high note by blocking a field on the Cowboys' first defensive possession of the season against the New York Giants. Noah Igbinoghene took the block back 58 yards for the opening score of a 40-0 victory.

Though most of Thomas' snaps have come on special teams, he has amassed 13 tackles and three pass breakups in 12 appearances so far this season.
With one less fan along for the ride, Thomas and the Cowboys (10-3) will be back in action on Sunday when they face the Buffalo Bills at home (3:25 p.m. CT, Fox).
