Dallas Cowboys Kicker New Nickname: Why Dak Prescott Calls Him 'Butter' Aubrey

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has been automatic through six weeks, and Dak Prescott has a nice nickname for the former MLS and USFL star.

Remember when Dallas Cowboys fans panicked over former MLS and USFL star Brandon Aubrey being the only kicker on the roster while other veterans were available? Well, they aren't panicking anymore.

Through the first six games of his NFL career, Aubrey and his dynamite right leg have barely put a foot wrong. Aubrey has been superb after his first extra-point miss against the New York Giants, hitting 16 of 16 field goals, and his stock continues to rise.

For Dak Prescott, Aubrey is one smooth customer.

“He’s butter, 'Butter Aubrey',” Prescott said with a smile. “Smooth, always had been, obviously I’m a big fan of his game, known him years before he became a Dallas Cowboy, one of my best friends. He’s an athlete man, an athlete playing kicker, and when you have that, he’s been a professional in soccer. To now be here in the NFL, he’s mature and just butter with it. No surprise.”

Long thought to be one of the biggest problems on the Cowboys roster, as fate would have it, for all the issues plaguing Dallas' season, Aubrey isn't one of them.

In fact, he is on the verge of history as his 16 consecutively made field goals to start his career is just two shy of the record of 18, which is held by Cleveland Browns kicker Travis Coons.

But Prescott isn't the only one touting Aubrey; Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is glowing in his assessment of his rookie kicker.

"He can crush it," McCarthy said. "He is so consistent. I enjoy watching him work. He's off to a great start. I don't know if I've seen a start like this in my time. What a kicker."

With the Cowboys on their bye week, we will have to wait a little longer to see if Aubrey can make history.

Many criticized the decision to make Aubrey the lone kicker on the roster in training camp after Tristan Vizcaino was released. Now, Dallas likely feels vindicated in its decision with each kick Aubrey bangs through the uprights, which he is doing smoothly ... like "Butter.''
