Cowboys' Micah Parsons: 'I'm Coming For D-Ware!'
Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons couldn't have asked for a better start to his career after finishing his first two seasons with two All-Pro selections and a Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021.
Nevertheless, legendary Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware sat down with Parsons and several other members of the organization on Monday to discuss their individual goals this season.
Ware, who was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame, has been admired by Parsons for quite some time. As Parsons continues his elite trajectory, he wants to eventually be in the same discussion as his fellow edge rusher.
"Man, I'm coming for you, D-Ware," Parsons said. "When you talk about legendary seasons and what they accomplish, you're right there at the top. I want to be on your level and exceed you one day."
In nine years with the Cowboys, Ware made seven Pro Bowls and four All-Pro appearances. He added two more Pro Bowls to his resumé with the Denver Broncos.
Parsons, 24, was voted as the No. 9 overall player and the second-best defender in The Top 100 Players of 2023.
Parsons' 26.5 sacks are the most by a player in their first two seasons in Cowboys history (Ware had 19.5 in that span). In addition, he's logged 149 tackles, 56 quarterback hits and six forced fumbles.
Parsons was the runner-up for the Defensive Player of the Year award in each of his first two seasons. Ware never won the prestigious honor throughout his illustrious career, but was also a finalist for it twice.
Obviously, the sample size is small, but Parsons is easily on a Hall of Fame trajectory if he remains healthy and continues to produce these jaw-dropping numbers.
