Cowboys' Micah Parsons Wants QB Joshua Dobbs 'Running For His Life'
Against the Tennessee Titans in 2022, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons only had one tackle — but that doesn't tell the whole story.
He hit quarterback Joshua Dobbs twice, pressured him six times and hurried him on four of those. Now, as Parsons is on a collision course of incredible proportions to begin the season, he and Dobbs will likely be reunited in a rather painful way this Sunday.
"I remember [Dobbs] running a lot," Parsons recalled of the Cowboys' 27-13 win over the Titans last year. "We were getting after it and getting the victory, so hopefully we can do that again."
Now, was Parsons implying that Dobbs was running a lot to pickup yardage with his legs or more so running to escape the grasp of the Cowboys defensive line? With Dobbs only recording three carries for 12 yards and getting sacked twice while also getting hurried 12 times, according to Pro Football Focus, he definitely meant the latter.
"It is a little frustrating," Parsons said of quarterbacks who can escape the pocket to avoid the rush. "But, that's just the nature of the game. They're running for their lives, and we're hunting."
The Cowboys' pass rush is one of the best in the NFL, as they are tied with the Washington Commanders for a league-high 10 sacks. Dallas' dominance up front has led to it getting pressure on 32.1 percent of opponent dropbacks, which trails the Pittsburgh Steelers by 6.5 percent.
Last week, the Arizona Cardinals had an utter collapse in the final 18 minutes, allowing the New York Giants to score 24-unanswered points to blow what was a 28-7 lead. In that game, Dobbs was 21-for-31 for 228 yards and one touchdown.
However, he was a threat with his legs, running three times for 41 yards including on a 23-yard touchdown scamper in the first half.
Parsons said that's something the Dallas defense needs to prepare for this weekend when facing Dobbs.
"We're going to treat him like the last couple weeks," Parsons said. "Guys who's running, guys who are a little bit more mobile. You saw a big run against him in the Giants, him getting outside that pocket, so we got to be prepared."
If the Cowboys prepare, and, ultimately, perform how they have been the last two weeks getting after the quarterback, Dobbs will be another signal-caller "running for their life."
