Tony Pollard vs. Christian McCaffrey: Cowboys RB Best in Fantasy Football?

Is Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard the next king of PPR fantasy football?

Heading into 2023, Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard has the potential to be an absolute draft steal in fantasy football.

Since coming into the league, Pollard has excelled whenever he’s had the opportunity to be the lead back for the Cowboys. Last season he played 49 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and averaged 19.3 PPR points in games where he rushed at least 10 times, the third most amongst running backs in 2022.

“He finished as the RB8 despite seeing fewer than 50% of the snaps in eight games and totaling a modest 232 touches. Dallas running backs combined for 524, and Elliott is gone,” Yahoo Sports said. “Pollard won’t become a true workhorse getting 325+ touches, but he’s averaged 102.3 yards from scrimmage and 0.91 touchdowns during games with a snap rate of more than 50% throughout his career; now, he’s clearly set up for by far the most opportunities of his career.”

While players like San Francisco 49er Christian McCaffrey and Indianapolis Colts’ rusher Jonathan Taylor will likely be selected earlier than Pollard due to their history of having finished atop running backs in recent years, Pollard could be the next running back to break out.

McCaffrey has struggled with health in his career, and Taylor has never proven himself to be a pass catcher. With rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson now in the mix to vulture Indy touchdowns, there’s cause for concern when selecting either of those likely top-rated running backs. We're not saying the Pro Bowl ball-carrier for "America's Team'' is some sort of "secret.'' But we bet Pollard is a good bet to outperform his draft position.

Rather than drafting based on historical finishes, we suggest you take a chance on the upside of Pollard now that he holds the key to an explosive Dallas offense. ... though if you're reading this as a Cowboys fan who plays fantasy football, you've probably already thought of that.
