Dak Prescott Contract Extension: Stephen Jones Reveals Cowboys 'Plan'
According to Stephen Jones, the Dallas Cowboys appear to be locked into a long-term future with quarterback Dak Prescott.
"We've got to have a plan to ultimately extend Dak," Jones told ESPN at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Prescott currently sits as a $49.2 million hit against the Cowboys' cap space. But a contract extension, which would potentially clear up more than $22 million in cap space, would also be a key factor in the Cowboys improving elsewhere throughout the roster.
And with that new space, according to Jones, the Cowboys would zero in on finding Prescott help on the offensive side of the ball.
"Offensively, we've just got to have, maybe add a playmaker to it," Jones said. "Add a little juice. Add a playmaker to it and see if we can do that."
However, that is not the only reason Jones says the Cowboys want to extend his team's two-time Pro Bowl quarterback. Dallas also believes, right or wrong, that Prescott is the quarterback that can lead them to where they ultimately want to go - a Super Bowl.
"I've got all the faith in the world we can win this thing with Dak," Jones said. "Because we know him. We know what he's about. His leadership skills are undeniable. Impeccable work ethic ... he's everything you want in a quarterback."
Suffice to say, if Jones and the Cowboys do indeed plan to extend the 29-year-old Prescott, who would be approaching his mid-30s by the time a new contract ended, they better be right.
