Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Prediction: ‘5,000 Yards Passing, MVP’?

After a down year leading the NFL in interceptions, the predictions for a major season are already rolling in for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Fresh off what many would describe as his worst season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott seems primed for a bounce-back year. The signal-caller for “America's Team” played outside of his normal self in 2022, tossing a career-high and league-leading 15 interceptions.

That number in the interceptions category looks like an outlier compared to years past, as he threw just 10 the season prior and threw just four as a rookie. Being "careless" with the football wasn't in Prescott's nature prior to 2022, and it seems many are already predicting he will turn it around this coming fall, a group that includes Fox Sports' Emmanuel Acho.

Despite working alongside Prescott hater... or troll, LeSean McCoy, Acho proclaimed on a recent addition of FS1's "Speak" that the Cowboys quarterback would bounce back in a major way.

"I think Dak Prescott will have the best year of his career this year. ... Dak will eclipse (5,000 passing yards) this year," Acho said. "I think about the explosion of the Cowboys' offense …

“A burner and a touchdown machine in CeeDee Lamb, … A burner in Brandin Cooks. ... A touchdown machine and home-run threat at running back (in Tony Pollard)” …

Acho pointed out how the Week 1 thumb injury maybe lingered last season. But now, Prescott is healthy, allowing him to put the work in to build connections with his weapons and learn the "Texas Coast" offense.

As for the actual prediction stats-wise, Acho essentially has the Cowboys quarterback winning the league MVP by throwing for 5,000 yards. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has achieved that benchmark in yards thrown twice and won the MVP in each of those seasons.

Unless he is just simply unlucky like Justin Herbert in 2021, who lost out on the award to Aaron Rodgers, despite throwing for 5,000 yards, Prescott would be very likely to win it.

Yes, it seems like a bold prediction, but the Cowboys quarterback did come close to doing it once before in 2019, as he fell just short at 4,902 yards. Back then, the Cowboys had Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup as their leading receivers, both totaled over 1,000 yards. Compare that to now, and the Cowboys have three receivers all capable of a 1,000-yard season with Lamb, Gallup, and Cooks. … and it adds up. A great Cowboys team can win an MVP trophy for Prescott.
