Dallas Cowboys Rank Above Eagles in Weird NFL ESPN Computer Model
FRISCO - We've said it often and we'll say it again: Part of the beauty of sports and of the NFL is that for all of the bold talk of supremacy and for all of the silliness of rankings, the games and the standings are all-powerful ...
And are all that matter. Unfortunately, however, the ESPN "computer model,'' as always refuses to listen to us.
And so as the 2023 NFL season approaches its 10th week, the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles have the league's best record at 8-1 seems to matter little to the machine. ...
And the fact that the Eagles just beat the Dallas Cowboys seems to matter even less.
ESPN has utilized its high-falutin' "computer model'' to explain to The Great Unwashed which teams are really the 10 best in the NFL so far this season. And the Eagles are not up there.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens are the top two teams in the NFL, according to ESPN Analytics. ... and of course there isn't much wrong with what they've done. The Chiefs are 7-2, as are the Ravens.

But in what world is 7-2 better than 8-1? In BristolWorld, it seems - though surely the Eagles are a close No. 3, right?
Wrong. The Chiefs and Ravens are followed by the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. How ridiculous is that? The Bills are 5-4 and are presently outside of the playoff picture. And the 49ers are 5-3 and they've lost three straight games!
The Miami Dolphins come in at No. 5, and then it gets really goofy again, because the 5-3 Cowboys are No. 6, followed by the Eagles at No. 7.
The list closes out with the Los Angeles Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars. ... but were stuck on how the "ESPN Analytics'' fails to "analyze'' that head-to-head results matter infinitely more than what a machine thinks.
What do the Bengals need to do to be above the 49ers and Bills? Apparently, beating them isn't good enough.
And what do the Eagles need to do to be ranked above the Dolphins and Cowboys? Apparently beating them isn't good enough, either.
