Tony Pollard Advice For Young Cowboys RBs: 'It's Do-or-Die!'

The Dallas Cowboys running back battle has been hotly contested and with the first preseason game approaching, Tony Pollard has a message for those wanting a roster spot.

For some players, the NFL preseason is life or death, well, maybe not death but it has a lot riding on it and for a host of young Dallas Cowboys running backs, the chance to stake their claim for a roster spot is one that has to be taken.

As training camp continues, the Cowboys are in preparation to host the Jacksonville Jaguars at AT&T Stadium on Saturday. It will be the first chance for Malik Davis, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Hunter Luepke (Ronald Jones is out with a groin issue) to showcase their talents.

Now the elder statesman of the group, Tony Pollard had a short but pointed message for those hoping to secure the No. 2 role behind him.

“It’s regular season for them, Pollard said. “They got to treat it like the regular season or playoff game. It’s do-or-die.”

With Ezekiel Elliott no longer with the team, Pollard has assumed the No. 1 mantle, even though last season the baton was passed halfway through the year.

As Pollard embarks on his first season as the "leader" of the running back room, there will be a lot more put on his plate.

Last season, Pollard only had 15 carries or more just five times (over 70 rushing yards in each), but with no Elliott to pick up the slack, the former Memphis star is ready for whatever is thrown at him.

“I approach it the same way I've been approaching it,” Pollard said. “Whatever they ask me to do, I’m going to attack it, give it my all. I’m prepared for any moments that they feel like I need to be in there for. I’m ready.”

Pollard is coming off his first Pro Bowl season and he looks as determined as ever to prove the doubters wrong, and that can only mean good things for the Cowboys' offense going forward.
