Cowboys Ex RB Ezekiel Elliott ESPN Signing Rumor? Bengals & Eagles Reveal Truth

The Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals are not interested in signing Ezekiel Elliott, as ESPN's Adam Schefter botches a report on the former Cowboys running back.

Ezekiel Elliott is reportedly closing in on finding his new home after being released by the Dallas Cowboys ... but suddenly we must use the word "reportedly'' advisedly after ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday connected Elliott to three NFL teams in errant fashion.

ESPN reported that Elliott is choosing from a short list of employers - "Elliott has narrowed down his options,'' Schefter wrote - and that he would like to "make his decision about where to sign by the end of the week, per sources.''

Unfortunately, Schefter got it wrong, probably causing Elliott some embarrassment and, frankly, hopefully caused Schefter and ESPN some embarrassment as well.

Why? Because as it turns out, the former two-time rushing champion is not "choosing.'' There are no contract offers from the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals, as ESPN suggested.

Turns out, via Schefter's "sources,'' this news (which reached 10 million readers on Twitter) is simply a Zeke wish list. ... if it's even that.

NBC Sports Philadelphia reported Thursday evening that the Eagles have not had contact with Elliott.

"I'm told as of right now the Eagles have not engaged in conversations with Ezekiel Elliott about joining the team and are happy with the running backs they have right now," John Clark said.

And the Bengals followed up with head coach Zac Taylor having to address the rumor in an interview with WCPO-TV

"There's a lot of great players that are available right now," Taylor said Thursday night. "We like our team as where it's at right now. But it's always funny when things get thrown around. Sometimes, it's the first you hear of it. But that's just the way life works."

And the Jets? What we know there is that Breece Hall, their top running back, is openly saying "no thanks'' to the idea of Elliott joining New York.

"I think we good over here,'' Hall said on Twitter.

Will Ezekiel Elliott sign somewhere? For his sake, probably so.

If Schefter reports on that signing, will we assume the report is true? For our sake, probably not.
