Injuries, Mistakes Ruin Cowboys In Loss To Seahawks

The Dallas Cowboys fell to the Seattle Seahawks in Saturday's preseason game for their second straight loss

The Dallas Cowboys lost their second straight preseason game on Saturday night, falling to the Seattle Seahawks 22-14 on the road.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, a few key mistakes late in the game ended up costing them dearly. Early in the fourth quarter, the Cowboys were down by three in the red zone threatening to take the lead, but quarterback Will Grier threw an interception to Seahawks cornerback Tre brown on the goal line. Then on Dallas' next possession, Seattle blocked Bryan Anger's punt and caused a safety out of the back of the end zone.

Even with those miscues, the Cowboys still had a chance to win on their final drive. They quickly moved the ball inside the Seahawks' 30-yard-line and were putting together a nice drive on the two-minute drill. However, a drop on third down by receiver Tyron Johnson followed by a breakdown in pass protection on fourth ended any chance of a comeback.

The Cowboys' offense kept up decently well, recording more first downs and nearly identical time of possession compared to the Seahawks'. However, those few costly mistakes ended up dramatically changing the course of the game.

Grier finished as the Cowboys leading passer by completing 13 of 18 passes for 136 yards and an interception, while Cooper Rush completed nine of his 14 attempts for 96 yards and a touchdown in his start. Running backs Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis each had over 30 yards on eight carries, but rookie Deuce Vaughn had the most impressive run of the night when he weaved his way through the defense for a 14-yard score. Jalen Tolbert also had an impressive receiving game for Dallas, accounting for 66 yards on four catches.

Drew Lock was the leading passer for Seattle, completing five of six attempts for 119 yards. Rookie Holton Ahlers ended up playing most of the game, though, completing seven of 13 passes for 61 yards while adding another 42 yards on seven carries. Starting quarterback Geno Smith also made a brief appearance to start the game, completing five of six passes for 46 yards.

The Cowboys also received some brutal injury news when rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown left the game with a knee injury. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they are fearing the worst with a torn ACL being likely. Additionally, rookie tight end John Stephens may need a knee MRI as well, offensive lineman Matt Waletzko has a shoulder injury and defensive back Sheldrick Redwine left with a hamstring issue.

The Cowboys come home to close out the preseason, hosting the Las Vegas Raiders at AT&T Stadium on Saturday.
