‘Cowboys Fan’ Skip Bayless: ‘I’m Picking Them to Lose!’

Fox Sports host and self-proclaimed Dallas Cowboys "fan" Skip Bayless predicts an all too familiar result for America's Team in 2023

To say Skip Bayless is a controversial figure among Dallas Cowboys fans (and sports fans as a whole, really) would be putting it lightly.

Bayless is a self-proclaimed lifelong Cowboys fans, and with the team being arguably the most popular in American sports, he gets totally about them quite a bit. The controversial Fox Sports host tends to stir up quite the frenzy with his Cowboys takes, being overly optimistic at some times and overly pessimistic at others.

Last week, Bayless took the opportunity to stir the pot again with another set of controversial takes. He started off optimistically enough, praising "his" Cowboys' offseason acquisitions and even controversially predicting them to win the division over the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.

"I don't think [winning the NFC East] is that big a deal, and I don't think it will be this year," Bayless said on "The Skip Bayless Show." "I just think (the Cowboys) are better than the Eagles and will win the East."

Then the conversation shifted to the postseason, and Bayless' outlook became more pessimistic. While he predicts the Cowboys will make the NFC Championship Game for the first time in nearly 30 years, he believes they will fall in said game. To make matters worse, Bayless believes that Dallas will experience déjà vu with a third straight playoff loss to the same opponent in what he claims is a "painfully objective" take.

"I'm picking them to lose a third straight playoff game to the San Francisco bleepin' 49ers," Bayless said.

The 49ers have been a thorn in the Cowboys' side the last two seasons, knocking them out of the playoffs in close games twice. If the two teams do meet again in the playoffs, the Cowboys will hope that the old adage of "third time's the charm" holds true.

Still, it's important to consider Bayless' position as a controversial talking head when discussing this take. What he defines as "objective" likely isn't the same as what others would define as such. … and as CowboysSI.com has tried to instruct over the years, he is not a Cowboys ‘insider” or “expert” or “fan.” He’s simply a contrarian provocateur … and here, an obviously transparent one.
