Cowboys CB Stephon Gilmore Scouts Trevon Diggs: 'He Has That Thing!'

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Stephon Gilmore is looking forward to playing alongside his new teammate and fellow All-Pro defender Trevon Diggs

Already boasting a stout defense, the Dallas Cowboys made a huge addition to the unit this offseason by trading for cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Entering Year 12 of his NFL career, Gilmore has been one of the top corners in the game for a while now. He has been a Pro-Bowler five times, a first-team All-Pro twice and won NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. He was also a star for the 2018 New England Patriots team that won Super Bowl LIII, bringing some championship pedigree to Dallas.

Gilmore has accomplished plenty throughout his career, but coming to Dallas gives him an opportunity he's never had before. Playing opposite fellow corner Trevon Diggs, Gilmore now has another All-Pro corner by his side.

Diggs may be far younger than Gilmore, but he seems to be on a similar career path. In his first three seasons, Diggs has been named to two Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro after posting a league-high 11 interceptions. With two star corners on the field, Dallas' defense will be even tougher on opposing offenses.

Needless to say, Gilmore is quite happy about working alongside a fellow All-Pro.

“He just has that thing,” Gilmore recently told NFL Network. “Some stuff you just can’t teach. He has great ball skills. I’m going to try to just teach him how to be a pro, teach him how to come to work every day and do the little things right. I think he can be the best in the league; he has that type of talent, and I’m just looking forward to helping him. Whatever I can do for him, I’m going to do it.”

The duo of Gilmore and Diggs has been highly-anticipated from the moment the trade was announced. With both players landing in the top 10 of PFF's cornerback ranking, the Cowboys may have the best coverage duo in the league.

As the start of the regular season grows closer, the hype around Dallas' new cornerback duo grows more and more. … with hope that both standouts show off “that thing.”
