'NFC is Weak,' Cowboys' Super Bowl Window Closing? 'Time is Now!' - Analyst

Dallas owns one of the better rosters in the NFL, and with the NFC being at its weakest in years, former Packers receiver James Jones feels that if the Cowboys are to end their Super Bowl drought, now is the time to do it.

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off back-to-back 12-win seasons and have added some nice pieces this offseason in Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore. Add to that the coaching changes that some feel will be beneficial to Dallas and Dak Prescott, as Mike McCarthy is now the offensive play-caller.

All of this points to the Cowboys being in the hunt for a Super Bowl, but they might not be in the "window" for long. Prescott talked about the need for urgency as he approaches 30 years of age, and former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones states that if Dallas is to end its Super Bowl drought, they might not have a better chance than right now.

“It is time right now,” Jones said on FS1’s Speak. “You have the right team, the NFC is weak; it is time right now to go. If they don’t get it done within the next two years, they ain’t going (to the Super Bowl), and Dak Prescott might be on another team. The time is now, and that’s why the urgency is up.”

Jones is overreacting to Prescott's situation. One, he's not going anywhere, and two, there's no particular reason a good QB can't win a Super Bowl at age 32 or 33 or whatever. But he makes some good points here, including this one ...

“The Dallas Cowboys players and coaching staff are looking, Niners, Eagles,'' he said. "That is the teams that you’re looking at that you can clearly say they can beat you when you walk out on that football field.”

The NFC is at its weakest in recent memory now with Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady no longer in the conference, and as Jones points out, only the Eagles and 49ers can really be put on the same level as Dallas. In other words, the NFC looks like a three-team race.

There has always been pressure on the Cowboys to end their NFC Championship and Super Bowl drought, and next season might present the best chance to do just that.

The defense is one of the best units in the league under Dan Quinn, and the offense has weapons that McCarthy can get the best out of with his Texas Coast Offense, so things are lining up.

But of course, this will not last forever, and the Cowboys need to take advantage of having everything needed to win a Super Bowl. And there's no better time than now to make it happen.
