Cowboys Host 'Freaky' & 'Sneaky' TEs In NFL Draft Visits
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are searching for depth at the tight end position after the loss of Dalton Schultz in free agency to the Houston Texans, and several recent mock drafts have the Cowboys selecting a tight end in one of the first two rounds.
The Cowboys recently hosted a couple of possible replacements for Schultz in Georgia's Darnell Washington and South Dakota State's Tucker Kraft, per ESPN.
Washington contributed 38 catches for 608 yards and three touchdowns in the last two seasons for Georgia while winning back-to-back national championships. He was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2022, starting 14 of 15 games played as Georgia repeated as champs.
Kraft caught 99 passes for 1,211 yards and nine touchdowns in his three seasons with the Jackrabbits. NFL.com projects him as a "combination tight end at the next level able to handle pass-catching and run-blocking duties. Kraft has Day 2 talent and should see the field early with a chance to become a TE1."
Washington is considered "freaky,'' as he's 6-7 and a "lean'' 280 pounds.
The 6-5, 254-pound Kraft? We'll call him "sneaky'' before of his obviously lower profile.
Jake Ferguson, the Cowboys' fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin last year, and Peyton Hendershot, an undrafted free agent from Indiana, took the majority of the snaps at tight end alongside Schultz for Dallas last season. And they are well-thought-of here inside The Star. But the Cowboys continue to dig through this tight end-deep draft for an additional answer. ...
Maybe a "freaky'' one. Or maybe a "sneaky'' one.
