Cowboys' Trevon Diggs Delivers Promise To Son (Sort Of) as Bills Stefon Watches
Dallas Cowboys' Trevon Diggs is an All-Pro cornerback on the field, but he's also an All-Pro dad off of it.
Prior to the Cowboys' season-opening thrashing of the New York Giants on "Sunday Night Football," Diggs' 6-year-old son, Aaiden Diggs, had a request for his father.
"He asked me before I had went on, he said, 'Dad, can you get me a pick?'" Diggs said after Dallas' 40-0 win. "I said, 'Alright. I'm going to try.'"
Trevon Diggs didn't necessarily deliver on the exact terms of his promise, but I don't Aaiden Diggs is complaining.
In the fourth quarter while Dallas was already leading 40-0, Diggs allowed a 24-yard completion to Giants wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins — New York's longest play of the night. Trevon Diggs chased down Hodgins, stripped the football and, after Israel Mukuamu recovered the fumble, he knew exactly where to take the football.
Trevon Diggs sprinted over to where Aaiden Diggs was sitting and handed him the game ball. Aaiden Diggs had his patented huge smile on his face holding the Cowboys' third turnover of the night, pumping his fist in the air in celebration.
"It just happened," Trevon Diggs said. "Threw the ball and I got a forced fumble, so I was like, 'Here you go. It's good enough.'"
Aaiden Diggs wasn't the only family member at MetLife Stadium Sunday night, though, as Trevon Diggs' brother, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, was in the house to see the Cowboys' dismantling of the Giants. The Bills play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium Monday night.
The Diggs family had a lot to celebrate after Trevon's season-opening performance.
His promise of an interception was sort of granted, as in the first quarter, Trevon Diggs laid a hit on an unassuming Saquon Barkley, popping the ball into the air and into cornerback DaRon Bland's hands for a 22-yard pick-six.
Had Trevon Diggs not laid the perfectly timed hit on Barkley, the Giants would have punted. Instead, they were trailing 16-0.
All three Cowboys cornerbacks got in on the fun, as Stephon Gilmore picked off quarterback Daniel Jones in the second quarter. However, Trevon Diggs was not ready to commit to saying he and Gilmore are the cornerback best duo in the NFL.
"We're going to continue to put it on display every week, and we're going to let y'all decide," Diggs said.
Well, they made a pretty compelling case.
