Dallas Cowboys vs. 'Goodfellas': QB Tommy DeVito Lives With Mom & Dad, Starts for New York Giants
In this story:

ARLINGTON - Yes, this Tommy DeVito is funny. ... funny like a clown. He's here to amuse you.

What do we mean "funny''? funny how? How is he "funny''?

OK, the New York Giants UDFA rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito - as opposed to the gangster Tommy DeVito portrayed so memorably by Joe Pesci in "Goodfellas'' is not a "clown.''

But he is offering up a backstory that is funny. And it does amuse us. And by the end of this NFL Week 10 Sunday meeting at the Dallas Cowboys here at AT&T Stadium - a meeting that the oddsmakers think will have Dallas telling Tommy, "go home and get your shine box'' as the home team is now favored by 17 - maybe the quarterback will be exposed as a "clown.''

But let's stick with the "funny'' part for now, as the lowly 2-7 Giants aren't having much fun out of trying to rally around a guy who will be starting at quarterback for the first time ...

DeVito, 25, is a New Jersey native. His parents live a few miles from Giants HQ at MetLife Stadium. So ...

He lives at home. With his parents.

"It was a no-brainer for me," DeVito said this week. "Everything that I need is there at the house ... Everything outside of football is handled by my family."I don't have to worry about laundry, what I'm eating for dinner. My mom still makes my bed.''

That is truly economical and wise, especially as DeVito - who was not particularly special as a college player - does not project to have a lengthy or lucrative NFL career.

The Cowboys hope his trajectory downward starts here, with a 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff on national TV that has both Giants starting QB Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve.

Micah's Message for Giants: 'Never Overlook an Opponent!'

It is the view of Giants teammate Saquon Barkley that DeVito's success on Sunday "could be a hell of a story. Let's make it a hell of a story.' Undrafted guy from Jersey. Lives in Jersey with his parents ... Gets to be starting quarterback for the New York Football Giants. ... The perfect story."

Oh, it's a "story,'' alright. Part "Goodfellas'' (and "Sopranos'') with some "Cinderella'' and "The Replacements'' mixed in. ... with the Cowboys' role being to make sure that like in "Goodfellas,'' Tommy DeVito gets whacked ... er, sacked.
