Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders Thanksgiving Preview; Kearse Injury Update
FRISCO - Gobble up that turkey and head for the couch or AT&T Stadium! The Dallas Cowboys host the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving in an afternoon NFC East division matchup.
With a victory, the Cowboys would extend their home winning streak to 13 games, the longest active streak in the NFL.
The Cowboys are fairly healthy, with safety Jayron Kearse (back) listed as “doubtful” the big concern.
The Cowboys have won their last two games by a combined score of 82-27. On Sunday, Dallas took down the Carolina Panthers 33-10, handing Bryce Young and the Panthers their NFL-worst ninth defeat of the season.
The Commanders suffered a disappointing Week 11 loss to the New York Giants with much thanks to six turnovers (three interceptions, three fumbles). The face plant has heightened rumors of changes to Washington's coaching staff.
Magic Johnson, part of the Josh Harris-led new Washington ownership group, wore his frustration on his social-media sleeve after the sloppy loss.
"Wow! My Washington Commanders turned the ball over six times today and gave the Giants 24 points off turnovers. We lost 31-19," Magic wrote on social media.
On a short week of preparation, Cowboys star Micah Parsons and the defense look to get after Commanders quarterback Sam Howell. The Commanders have given up 51 sacks in 2023, second-most in the NFL.
The Cowboys are fresh off a seven-sack performance against the Panthers, tying a season-high that they set in the season-opener at the Giants. Parsons tied a career-high with 2.5 sacks on Sunday, with 10 sacks already this season.
The scrutinized "Texas Coast Offense" hopes to keep the positive momentum as Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott plays in his seventh Thanksgiving game. The Cowboys are averaging a league-high 40 points-per-game at home in 2023.
Washington's defense sacked Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito nine times. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have not allowed a sack in back-to-back games.
Keep an eye on Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland, who leads all NFL non-offensive players with four touchdowns in 2023. Last week at Carolina, Bland tied the NFL record for most pick-sixes in a season (four). He needs one more to set the record.
The Cowboys have now won four out of their last five, with the only hiccup being the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys are trying to keep pace with the 8-1 Eagles, who lead in the NFC East division.
FUN FACT: For the first time in franchise history, the Cowboys have not allowed a 100-yard rusher, 100-yard receiver or 300-yard passer through the first 10 games of a season. The last NFL team to accomplish this feat in the first 10 games of a season was the 1990 Dolphins.

THE FINAL WORD: Former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson will finally be inducted into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor, Jerry Jones announced.
“I found out when Jimmy and Jerry showed up in my locker room,” Coach Mike McCarthy said. “It was awesome to see them two together, it was really cool,” McCarthy said. “They finish each other’s sentences. I know Jimmy is very touched by it, obviously very fortunate to have that time with both of them.”
