‘The Mahomes of XFL!’ Can Cowboys Ex Ben DiNucci Make Broncos Roster?

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci is trying out for the Denver Broncos after impressing during his stint with the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons.

One of the Dallas Cowboys' former players, and current XFL standout, Seattle Sea Dragons quarterback Ben DiNucci is getting a second chance at an NFL career.

On Thursday, the XFL posted a list of players receiving invitations to try out for the NFL. Among those offered a chance at redemption was the Cowboys' 2020 seventh-round selection DiNucci, who will be trying out for the Denver Broncos.

During DiNucci's stint in Dallas, he started one game, and though the game was lost, hope wasn't. After being released by the Cowboys during their training camp in 2022, he found a second chance at playing professional football in the XFL.

With the Sea Dragons, DiNucci rediscovered some of the success that warranted  Dallas' belief in him as a prospect coming out of James Madison University.

In the XFL's 10-game season, he would throw for 20 touchdowns and a league-leading 2,671 yards.

Unfortunately for DiNucci, the turnover woes that plagued him during his lone start for the Cowboys resurfaced, as he would also lead the XFL in interceptions thrown [13].

In Denver, DiNucci will compete against Jarrett Stidham and Jarrett Guarantano to back up incumbent Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. The good news for DiNucci is that newly acquired head coach Sean Payton is an offensive mind with a proven affinity for rostering at least three quarterbacks during his New Orleans Saints tenure.

If the one-time Dallas starter can display some of the abilities that drew comparisons to Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes while in the XFL, he has a realistic chance at surpassing 2022 rookie UDFA Guarantano on the depth chart and reclaiming a roster spot in the NFL.
