Cowboys Blaming Dak Prescott Contract for Roster Problems?

The Cowboys’ contract with quarterback Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones explains, makes it difficult to build a roster.

It is assumed that nobody wants to win a Super Bowl more than Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and it seems like they are close but not close enough, as evidenced by the 28-year drought.

Who or what is to blame? Is it on the front office? Is it on Dak Prescott?

"We want to get all the help around him, but … when you have a competitive-paid quarterback in the NFL, then you're not going to be able to get the most skill around," Jones said in a Friday media session at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. “You're going to have to pick your spots, and you're going to be a little slower one year than the next …”

Jones said it would be "hard" to match their supporting cast that Dak had when first came into the league as a rookie in 2016.

There are some points worth debate here. For instance:

1- Dak hasn’t been around for 28 years.

2- Championship teams find ways.

3- Dak’s rookie year he was on a cheap contract. But Tony Romo was part of that good roster. He was not cheap.

Jones is not saying the championship window has closed on the Cowboys; rather, he acknowledges that they must get creative to add to their already talented roster. But the challenge won’t be going away, as the team is planning to extend Prescott to create as much as $22 million in 2023 cap room.

More room. More challenges. And to fans who want to win a Super Bowl just like Jerry does? No excuses.
