Cowboys Meet WR Prospect Tyler Scott: Work with Dak Prescott, 'Need for Speed?'

The Dallas Cowboys are keeping their options open in seeking additional help at wide receiver heading into 2023.

Might the Dallas Cowboys be willing to sacrifice a small amount of size for a lot of speed at wide receiver?

If the answer is 'yes,' then Cincinnati speedster Tyler Scott could be the player to break Dallas' "mold."

When speaking with reporters on Friday morning from the 2023 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Scott advised that he expects to formally meet with the Cowboys on Friday evening.

Judging by the smile on his face when asked of his impending appointment, it appears that Scott is excited to earn an audience with "America's Team."

"It will be fun, Scott said. "It's a great team ... a team I've followed for a long time."

Measuring in at 5-11 and 177 pounds, Scott is one of the most explosive athletes in 2023’s draft class. The Cincinnati prospect possesses top-level speed which allows him to separate from his defenders on the majority of his routes.

However, his quickness also allows him the opportunity to make plays in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field. Due to his opponents’ respect for his speed, defensive backs tend to play him deep. As a result, Scott is often left alone for potential short-yardage gains.

With quarterback Dak Prescott clearly in need of pass-catching help, Scott is more-than-capable of adding another dimension to the Cowboys offense.

He also seems intrigued by the chance to play alongside Prescott.

"I think he's a great player," Scott said of Prescott. "He holds his own at the position and he's a good leader as well. I think he'd be a great person to learn from."

Scott's current skill set, as well as his potential, afford him the chance to make an immediate impact with Dallas. While CeeDee Lamb will almost certainly remain atop the wide receiver depth chart, the second spot looks to be there for the taking. Michael Gallup finished the season with 39 catches for 424 and four touchdowns — a far cry from Lamb’s team-leading 107 receptions for 1359 yards and nine scores. Veteran Noah Brown also added 555 yards with three touchdowns.

Still, it should be noted that Lamb (6-2, 200), Gallup (6-1, 200), Brown (6-3, 225) and rookie Jalen Tolbert (6-1, 198) have size. And that's no coincidence. The Cowboys have a "mold'' at wideout, an "ideal'' size.

Bringing the 5-11 Tyler Scott to Dallas would be considered a bit 'against the grain.'

However, it may be a move worth making to satisfy their need for speed in 2023 and beyond.
