Cowboys Micah Parsons Win NFL MVP? Why It’ll Never Happen
FRISCO - Patrick Mahomes got a lot of first-place MVP votes. Micah Parsons got just enough attention to merit mention.
And history says the Dallas Cowboys star defender - who finished eighth in the voting - should be extremely flattered.
Why? Because this is now a quarterback award.
In a star-studded affair, the NFL celebrated the league's best on Thursday night at the 12th annual NFL Honors. Live from Symphony Hall in Phoenix, Super Bowl LVII's host city, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Mahomes was crowned NFL Most Valuable Player.
Mahomes, who also won MVP in 2018, is the 10th ever multi-time NFL MVP winner. The quarterback did not attend the ceremony to accept the award, as he and the 1.5-point underdog Chiefs prepare for Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Mahomes ran away with the honor, earning 48 of 50 first-place votes; the other two went to Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Micah's points totaled give him the No. 8 spot in a contest that, in the last 15 years has seen 16 MVPs be quarterbacks. The only exception was in 2012, when Adrian Peterson’s 2,000-yard season in Minnesota pushed him to the award.
Mahomes isn’t going away. And Parsons (motivated by the fact that he didn’t win Defensive Player of the Year) is coming on strong. But history says odds are if a Cowboys star of this generation is to win the MVP …
It’ll be Dak, not Micah.
