Deion Sanders: 'I Feel Sorry for Dak Prescott!' Why's Dallas Cowboys QB Getting Excused?
FRISCO - Deion Sanders is issuing some harsh criticism in the direction of his old Dallas Cowboys pals, questioning this team's ability to "fight back'' and to play like "dogs.''
But "Coach Prime,'' in reviewing Dallas having suffered an embarrassing loss against the San Francisco 49ers in NFL Week 5 also said something that in a way stings even more than the criticism.
Deion is offering up public sympathy for Dallas QB Dak Prescott.
“I felt bad for Dak,'' Sanders said, "because I think Dak is better than that.”
Some who watched the 42-10 loss to the Niners, which moved the Cowboys to a 3-2 record, might suggest that University of Colorado football coach Sanders - as astute as he is in so many ways - is missing the point. We're not sure why he would single out Prescott, who in that game (with his 153 passing yards and his three interceptions) was just as lacking in "fight-back dog'' as anybody else in silver and blue.
One of the dangers in "Coach Prime'' offering this take: The public, as much as ever, pays attention to Sanders' words. And these words sets up Prescott as being separate from the rest of his team ... and even as being better than the rest of his team.
'We Want The Ball In Dak's Hands!' 49ers Roast Dallas; Did Cowboys Quit? FISH PODCAST
Martyrdom for Dak? As the Cowboys ready for another game on the national stage in Week 6 with "Monday Night Football'' at the Chargers, Prescott surely does not want that. It does the Cowboys no favors. And one wonders why Deion doesn't "feel bad for'' the dozens of other Cowboys who just got done spending the week getting ripped for their collective performance.
