Deion to Dallas? 'I Ain't Goin' to the NFL!' Vows 'Coach Prime'

If Dallas Cowboys icon Deion Sanders ever changes his mind about coaching in the NFL? The Colorado coach will damn sure let the world know.

FRISCO - It was not long ago that Deion Sanders broke the news of his views on someday coaching in the NFL in an interview with CowboysSI.com. Sanders told us then that he's "too old-fashioned'' in terms of his coaching style to be interested in such a move, even if it involved the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite that answer being quite available on Google and such, the new University of Colorado head coach continues to be asked the same question almost at every turn. Is there another "scoop'' to be gained? Is "Coach Prime'' in the verge of changing his mind?

“I ain’t goin to the NFL ... I like it in Boulder," Sanders said.

In his playing career, Sanders became one of the best to ever do it, with the Dallas Cowboys and elsewhere on the way to a Hall of Fame berth. He is now in the process of doing much the same as a coach, first with a rapid turnaround of the program at Jackson State and now at CU, where his 2-0 record means the program has twice as many wins already as it did all last year.

Along with the redundant questions have also come not only the naysayers - which by the way is a normal thing, despite Deion's "Do you believe now?'' chiding of them - but also the opposing coaches who have mistakenly opted to poke this bear.

After CU upset TCU in the opener, the Buffs felt disrespected by Matt Rhule and used that as fuel to beat Nebraska. And this week? The Buffs were already 23-point favorites before Jay Norvell, the coach at in-state rival Colorado State, took an ill-advised poke at Deion for wearing his trademark ball cap and sunglasses, saying his "mother taught him'' better manners than that.

"Coach Prime's'' response was as clever as it was predictable: He handed our cool sunglasses to all his players while announcing, "You went and made it personal!''

Sanders at Colorado, while coaching two of his sons, is the No. 1 story in college football right now. He has no need to entertain tired hypotheticals.

But if he ever changes his mind about the NFL? The Deion Sanders that we've become acquainted with over the course of the last 30 years will damn sure let the world know.
