DeMarcus Ware 'Worried' About Cowboys Offense For 1 Reason
The Dallas Cowboys are happy to let tight end Dalton Schultz test the free agent market. And one legend isn't exactly happy about it.
With rookies in Peyton Hendershot and Jake Ferguson showing promise in their first year, there is hope the duo can fill the void potentially left by Schultz.
But former Dallas defensive end and nine-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Ware think the Cowboys need to address the tight end situation first, not the receiver position.
"Offensively, I'm worried about the tight end situation," Ware said on the Up & Adams podcast. "They need a Jason Witten back. They have the outer core with CeeDee Lamb and a couple of other guys. But they need that tight end that can really stretch the field with those linebackers to help the run game."
Is Ware's concerns regarding the tight-end position valid with Schultz set to leave via free agency?
The youngsters are not fully-known commodities in NFL circles, and Dallas is "hoping" more than knowing that Ferguson and Hendershot can take over from Dak Prescott's favorite target.
Does this mean the Cowboys could address the tight end position in the upcoming draft? Mel Kiper Jr. has already picked Dallas to select Dalton Kincaid out of Utah, with the 6-foot-4, 240-pound stud thought to be a ready-made pass catcher from the outset of his NFL career.
So, while many want Dallas to bolster the receiving room with DeAndre Hopkins or Odell Beckham Jr., Ware feels the tight end position needs fortifying.
Thankfully for Dallas, this year's tight end class is relatively deep, with Georgia's Darnell Washington and Notre Dame's Michael Meyer tipped to be taken in the draft's first two rounds.
Where Dallas goes with pick 26 is uncertain, but if it were Ware's choice, tight end would be the avenue to go down.
