'It Snowballs!' Detroit Lions Coach Dan Campbell Reveals Thoughts on Dallas Cowboys' Home Success

There’s no place like Jerry World.

The Dallas Cowboys remain undefeated at home this season, having suffered all five of their losses in hostile environments in 2023. That split has stirred up conversations about Dallas’ playoff path, which will likely be spent entirely on the road. The flip side of that, however, is the +171 point differential they have in their building.

Dallas will host the Detroit Lions on Saturday night in what could very well be its last home game of the 2023 campaign. Lions head coach Dan Campbell is prepared for the madhouse AT&T Stadium can become and the environment the Cowboys - with 15 straight wins in Arlington - thrive in.

“I think the comfort, the comfort of being there and to be able to function, particularly offensively, without the crowd noise,” Campbell began. “There’s a number of things that they’re able to do because they don’t have to be on silent cadence … they take full advantage of being home, they do it well.”

Campbell, a Texas guy and an ex-Cowboy himself, enjoyed the old Texas Stadium before departing to Detroit after the 2005 season. It’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about "America’s Team'' and its fans.

However, he’s also well aware of the talent in Dallas (10-5) that poses a threat to his Lions (11-4). In what could be a playoff preview, the Cowboys, touchdown favorites at home, are expected to continue their dominance at home.

“Certainly, they’ve got plenty of pieces over there,” Campbell said. “It starts with this quarterback [Dak Prescott], he’s a heck of a player, he’s a winner. He can make all the throws, he’s mobile. And he’s got weapons … This offensive line’s pretty good, so they’ve got a number of things that go well for them.”

Despite the two-game losing streak, the road woes, and the calls of fraudulence, Dallas still ranks second in offensive expected points added per play and fourth on the other side of the ball.

Flawed? Sure. Dangerous? Definitely -- especially when they punch first.

“We have to get off to a fast start because that’s where this (Dallas) team excels,” Campbell said. “They get going and all of a sudden it snowballs and then you just can’t make up for the mistakes that you may have had earlier in the game.”

Campbell’s homecoming of sorts is sure to be met with the vitriol the Cowboys fans promise when they purchase their ticket and stampede their way to their seats. Whoever gets out in front on Saturday could keep it that way ... "snowballing'' until the final whistle.
