Eli Manning Advises Giants' Tommy DeVito How to Beat Dallas Cowboys & Micah Parsons

FRISCO - Tommy DeVito is about to make his first start for the New York Giants this week, and a predecessor is trying to offer some advice to the undrafted rookie QB who is part of a team that on Sunday will be a 17-point underdogs at the Dallas Cowboys.

"Try to throw it to the guys wearing the same jerseys that you’re wearing. That’s the No. 1 rule for quarterbacks," Manning said to The Spun. "If I’m wearing blue today, I got to throw it to the guys wearing blue."

We will assume that DeVito - in following injuries to both Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor - understands that part of the sport. But seriously, is there anything the 2-7 Giants can do to endure what figures to come against a Dallas team that played them at MetLife when they were at full strength, and won, 40-0?

Manning, the Giants' Super Bowl-winning QB, really does have a piece of X's and O's advice for the New Jersey-born DeVito, one bit focusing on the Giants' offense and then one bit focusing on the Cowboys' defense.

The offensive part?

"Saquon Barkley will need to play a big part in this game,'' Manning said of the Giants running back, adding, "Having the whole week to prepare as the starter should give Tommy a better chance to do well."

And the defensive-minded notion?

"Let’s try to double-team Micah Parsons for most of the day so Tommy has time to push the ball downfield," Manning said about the game plan.

Micah's Message for Giants: 'Never Overlook an Opponent!'

Of course, Manning - who said that he is excited to see what DeVito, 25, might do in his first opportunity to start in the NFL - is quite aware that these concepts are not unique.

If all the Giants needed to do to win was rely on Barkley, their best player, they'd be winning.

And if all it took to overcome the "Dallas Doomsday'' defense was to double-team Parsons, the Cowboys wouldn't be 5-3.

As excited as Manning might be to see Tommy DeVito on Sunday, here's a decent bet: Parsons and the rest of the Cowboys are even more excited than that.
