'We Stayed the Course!' Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys Rally Following Slow Start vs. Rams

Dak Prescott was sacked on three of the first four plays of Sunday's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, but the Dallas Cowboys stuck with the game plan.

After the Dallas Cowboys trounced the Los Angeles Rams 43-20 on Sunday, Cowboys fans may have been quick to forget how the game started at AT&T Stadium.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was sacked on three of the first four plays of the game, and Dallas was bailed out by an illegal contact penalty against the Rams in the secondary of one of those plays. How did head coach Mike McCarthy and his team react?

In short, they didn't waver.

“It tested my game plan," McCarthy admitted. "We wanted to come out and tilt more towards the passing game starting out. With the first three sacks in those four plays, we stayed the course, and our guys stayed the course. That’s part of it. That’s the beauty of winning."

Sunday was not perfect for Dallas. Alongside Dak being sacked three times, running back Tony Pollard barely eclipsed 50 yards on the ground, something that will surely be a point of emphasis moving forward.

But, at the end of the day, the Cowboys now have won 11 straight home games, the latest of which came over a quality NFC opponent out of Los Angeles. That's a solid moment in the course of a season.

"There are still plenty of corrections," McCarthy said. "We have a lot to work on, and that’s a good place to be after a significant victory.”

The Cowboys are now 5-2 overall, and they have a huge game looming next week when they travel to face their NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is slated for 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX. … and the plan will surely be tested once again.
