Should Cowboys Sign Tottenham Soccer’s Harry Kane as Kicker?
Positional battles are taking place in practice as teammates look to solidify their place on the depth chart, but the Dallas Cowboys have the opportunity to sign an experienced football kicker ... well, sort of.
Harry Kane of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is English football royalty, the country's team captain, the leader in goals scored, and perhaps most importantly, he's interested in an NFL career.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Kane said that he wants to be a kicker in the NFL once retires from soccer.
"It's something I want to definitely explore," Kane said. "I know it will be a lot of hard work. I'm not expecting to just walk up and start kicking field goals. It would be a lot of practice, a lot of hard work. But yeah, it's something I'd love to do. The NFL is something I have been following for about 10 years now, and I love it, so I would love to give it a go."
Unfortunately, Kane isn't attempting to make his NFL debut this season, but with the league continuing to play games internationally, the likelihood that the Cowboys kicker of the future comes from Europe or another part of the globe where soccer is the more popular type of fútbol increases each season.
In the meantime, “America's Team” will either have to make do with current kicker Tristan Vizcaino or continue scouring the current pool of castaway kickers, which includes big-name guys (Robbie Gould, Mason Crosby) and USFL players and XFL hopefuls.
Hopefully, 2023 proves that the team's kicking woes are a thing of the past, but CowboysSI.com won't soon forget last season's nightmarish kicking performance where four PATs were missed in the NFC wild-card game, nearly overshadowing a playoff victory … and leading to a scramble so desperate that maybe a non-kicker might need to help solve it..
